Safiya Asya Bukhari – member of the Black Panther Party and the Amistad Collective of the Black Liberation Army, Co-founder of the Free Mumia Abu Jamal Coalition and the Jericho Amnesty Coalition, Vice President of the Provisional Government of the Republic of New Afrika – became an Ancestor Black August 24, 2003.

The Jericho Amnesty Coalition-Los Angeles hosted an event honoring her life on February 21, 2004, at Faith United Methodist Church in South Central Los Angeles. The main speaker was human rights activist Yuri Kochiyama, a friend and comrade of Safiya. Yuri was also a friend of and deeply influenced by Malcolm X. She was a staunch ally/supporter of anti-imperialist struggles and political prisoners and prisoners of war.
